Code of Conduct

The Riverdale Ball Club Board has formed this Volunteer Code of Conduct that all coaches, players, umpires and parents are encouraged to read and sign, acknowledging that he/she understands and agrees to comply with the Code of Conduct.

PARENTS

•I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or other sporting event.

•I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures.

•I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.

•I will respect any decisions and calls made by coaches and officials and will refrain from coaching my child from the sidelines during a game.

•I understand that any equipment I provide for my child must be approved by the coaches to be in compliance with current regulations and the best interes t of the player.

•I will demand a drug, alcohol, and tobacco-free sports environment for my child and will refrain from their use at all Riverdale Ball events, games, and practices.

•I will ask my child to treat ALL players, coaches, fans and officials with respect regardless of race, gender, creed or ability.

•I will insist that my child play in a safe and healthy environment.

•I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

•I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches at the game field, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place

•I understand that there is a zero tolerance policy towards verbally abusing or touching an umpire or referee. If ejected from a game by an official for improper actions, I will be asked to the leave the facility and will be suspended.


PLAYERS

•I will encourage good sportsmanship from fellow players, coaches, officials and parents at every game and practice by demonstrating good sportsmanship.

•I will remember that sports participation is an opportunity to learn and have FUN. Competition increases with each level and I will be responsible to myself and my team to participate at their level.

•I will be on time for every practice and game that I can, and will notify my coach in advance if I cannot.

•I will do my very best to listen and learn from my coaches.

•I will play by the rules of the sport, demonstrating and encouraging good sportsmanship both in victory and in defeat.

•I will never argue with or complain about a referee’s calls or decision.

•I will treat my coaches, other players, officials and fans with respect regardless of race, gender, creed or abilities.

•I will not provide, use, or condone the use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products.

•I will encourage my parents to be involved with my team in some capacity because it’s important to me.

•I will expect a fair amount of playing time.


COACHES

•I will encourage good sportsmanship from players, fellow coaches, officials, and parents at every game and practice by demonstrating good sportsmanship.

•I will place the emotional and physical wellbeing of my players ahead of my personal desire to win.

•I will do my best to provide a safe playing situation for my players.

•I will refrain from making derogatory remarks or using foul language to or about umpires, referees, coaches, parents, players, and spectators from both sides of the team.

•I will make sure my players and parents treat other players, parents, spectators, umpires, coaches, and referees with respect regardless of race, sex, creed, or playing ability.

•I will remember that in recreational sports everyone plays as much as is possible.

•I will remember that I am a youth sports coach, and that the game is for the children, not adults.

•I will be knowledgeable of the rules and I will teach these rules to my players.

•I will refrain from the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products at all Riverdale Ball Club sponsored events, games, and practices.

•I understand that intimidating actions with children, parents, spectators, referees, or umpires will not be tolerated.

OFFICIALS/UMPIRES 

•I will refrain from unnecessary or excessive sideline conversations with coaches.

•I will be knowledgeable of the rules and uphold them to the best of my ability

•I will remember that I am a youth official/umpire, and that the game is for the children, not adults.

•I will not show any undo bias or favoritism to coach, player, team or parent.

•I will refrain from the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products at all Riverdale Ball Club sponsored events, games, and practices.

•I will do my best to provide a safe playing situation for the players on the field at all times.

•I will treat my coaches, other players, other officials and fans with respect regardless of race, gender, creed or abilities.

•If an ejection is made by me…I will be present at the meeting with the person ejected and board members as they deem appropriate.

•I will be responsible for my own transportation to and from the park.

•I will look presentable, in officiating attire at each game assigned
